AB de Villiers – The retirement

South African professional cricketer AB de Villiers announced his retirement from all forms of cricket including the IPL and other franchises. On 19.11.2021, Mr. 360 publicized his retirement through Twitter saying that,

“It has been an incredible journey, but I have decided to retire from all cricket. Ever since the backyard matches with my older brothers, I have played the game with pure enjoyment and unbridled enthusiasm. Now, at the age of 37, that flame no longer burns so brightly.”

De Villiers already retired from international cricket in 2018 but in 2020 he expressed his interest in making a comeback to international cricket and playing in the T20 world cup 2020. Also, he was active with other franchise cricket leagues and as well as the Indian Premier League.  De Villiers appeared for 156 matches for Royal challengers Bangalore and he holds the record of holding 4491 who is the second most run-scorer after Virat Kohli. And the second and third highest individual run-scorer in the entire RCB history.

De Villiers started his career in cricket as a Wicketkeeper/batsman but he appeared mostly as a batsman. He was widely considered as one of the greatest wicket-keeper batsmen of all time. And also, he was given the name “Mr.360” because of his attacking & unorthodox shots, particularly against the yorker balls.  He was given the title “ICC ODI Player of the year” three times and was one of the five “Wisden Cricketers” of the decade at the end of 2019. Apart from these de Villiers holds the record of fastest 50,100 and 150 in ODI and he is the only batsman ever to average above 50 with a strike rate of above 100.

Anyhow de Villiers’s contribution to cricket was remarkable and it will remain unsurpassable in cricket history for the long run. We the FCL team wish him the happiest retirement. The entire cricket world will miss u “Superman”.
