Babar surpassed Virat Kohli to pull off the record
Pakistan skipper Babar Azam crossed 10,000 runs in international cricket on Sunday in Sri Lanka vs Pakistan Test match and became the fastest Asian to cross the milestone.
Babar scored an amazing 34 runs during the 2nd day of the 1st test match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan at the Galle International Stadium to mark history. Babar took just 228 innings to bring up the runs, 4 innings fewer than Virat Kohli. He broke the previous record of Indian batsman Virat Kohli who scored 10,000 runs in 232 innings to become the fastest Asian to do so in international cricket.
The former Indian skipper has already rack-up around 23700 international runs and Azam has a long way to go to match his class. However, Azam is a class player who is in the best form of his life and can earn more on the international level. Babar and Kohli are viewed as the finest players and are now frequently compared by fans as to who has the better cover drive.

Earlier this week, at a press conference, Azam backed Virat Kohli who is going through a tough time now, and tweeted Kohli as one of the best players. “As a player myself, I know you can go through such a phase (out of form) and I also know what a player goes through in such a phase. In those times, you need support. I just tweeted thinking that it will give just some support. He is one of the best players,” Babar said.
Through the record, Babar is now the fastest Pakistani hitter to register such a record. He took 20 fewer innings than the second-placed Javed Miandad. Among the Asians, only Indian and Pakistan players dominate on the list. Sunil Gavaskar(243), Javed Miandad(248), and Sourav Ganguly(253) are listed after Babar and Kohli.
Babar Azam is currently at No.4 in Test ranking after Joe Root, Marnus Labuschagne, and Steve Smith.
Vivian Richards, the legendary West Indies cricket player who amassed 10,000 runs in just 206 innings during his incredible career, lads the list in this regard.
Babar Azam – the 5th fastest batter in international cricket to reach 10,000 runs
Babar Azam is the 5th fastest batsman at the international level to reach the milestone in 228 innings. The first four batsmen are Viv Richards(206 innings), Brian Lara(220 innings), Hashim Amla(217 innings), and Joe Root(222 innings). Joe Root and Babar Azam are the only active players on the list now.
Babar has 10,013 runs in 228 innings now after the 2nd day of the Test match, including 24 centuries and 66 half-centuries. Without a doubt, Azam is on the path to becoming one of the greatest in history. If he continues to play like this, he will surely surpass many player’s records.
