Current Indian Captain and right-handed opening batsman Rohit Sharma’s participation in India vs England Test series and T20I series is in doubt. Rohit is tested positive again for Covid 19 and he is in isolation now at Leicestershire. Rohit Sharma was decided to be the captain for both the series but in his absence, Jasprit Bumrah will lead the team for the remaining Test match. Captaincy of the T20 series is still in doubt. Despite being tested positive twice in the consecutive tests, the team management has never given up on Rohit.
Coach Rahul Dravid stated that Rohit will undergo two more tests before the game. “The update on Rohit is that he’s being monitored by our medical team – he’s not yet been ruled out. We’ve still got close to 36 hours to go, so he’ll have a test later tonight and one tomorrow morning as well. And then we’ll see.” said Dravid. So, Rohit will remain on the Indian line-up no matter what.
England players believe that the absence of Rohit Sharma will be a huge miss for team India. England’s middle-order batter Dawid Malan commented that “Whenever you lose your leader, who’s also one of your best batters, it’s incredibly tough for your team. It will be a big loss if he doesn’t play, but only time will tell how big a loss that could be.” It could be seen favorably by England but, Team India is strong enough to fill the gap left by Rohit. There are many experienced players for India and they will surely fill in Rohit.
The opener Mayank Agarwal is opted to cover Rohit in batting. Also, everyone has got high hope for the former captain Virat Kohli. He was failing to score an international century since 2019. But the way he played the game against Leicester give hope to the fans. Even though he didn’t convert the score into a three-digit, his innings were good and everyone expects match-winning contributions from him. India is waiting to secure their first Test series win in England since 2007 and now India is leading the series 2-1.
Team England is all set to blast under the new leadership of coach Brendon McCullum and Captain Ben Stocks. They recently defeated the current ICC World Test Champions New Zealand (3-0) and waiting for completing the Test match with India. England’s unrelenting aggression and style of play are noticed by the entire cricket fans. They are high on confidence and will surely continue to play in the same aggressive manner. On behalf of this, coach Dravid believes that India would have opportunities irrespective of England’s approaches because India is leading the series.
