Team India has suffered another significant setback in the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia as India’s fast bowler Deepak Chahar is ruled out of the tournament. BCCI announces the replacement of Chahar for the T20 World Cup due to fitness issues. Chahar was named part of the reserves for the 2022 World Cup earlier.
But now, Deepak Chahar has become a recent addition to the list of injured players along with Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah.
The pace bowler Chahar shall no more be a part of the Indian squad and Shardul Thakur is going to be the replacement for Chahar in the reserves.
Earlier, India’s most important player Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the World Cup team due to a back injury. Chahar was earlier considered the perfect replacement for Bumrah. Now, things have worsened for team India with Chahar’s injury. With Chahar missing the trip to Australia, team India has lost the chance of availing the best bowling option in the upcoming big event.
He was also ruled out from the recently concluded ODI series against South Africa due to a stiff back.
Most probably, Mohammed Shami will now replace the injured Jasprit Bumrah to make up the team’s bowling unit. Now, Shardul Thakur, the replacement for Chahar will make it into the reserves. He might get a chance to feature in the playing XI if any further injuries are reported in the squad.

Chahar was in impressive form after he returned from a long injury break during the series against Zimbabwe. His absence will highly affect the team’s performance in the World Cup. He was a highly significant player for the team in T20Is. His spell with the new ball was excellent. Also, he was an expert at bowling in the death overs. His bowling figures of 6/7 against Bangladesh are the best record by any bowler in the history of T20Is.
Chahar has a record of 29 wickets in 24 T20Is so far. While batting in the lower middle order, he can offer good finishing by hitting the ball long distances.
With his impressive form in South Africa ODI, Mohammed Siraj will be another option for team India in the World Cup. The replacement of Bumrah is not even confirmed by BCCI. So, along with Mohammed Shami and Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj will fly to Australia on Thursday. The pacers will join the Indian squad currently practicing in Perth. India’s first match in the T20 World Cup will be commenced on October 23rd Sunday against the arch-rivals Pakistan.
