Rajat Patidar has scored a century for RCB in the eliminator against the Lucknow Super Giants in the 15th season of the Indian Premier League. He finished third with a 49-ball century. At the end of 20 overs, he was unbeaten on 112 off 54 balls, including 12 fours and 7sixes. Patidar’s strike rate was at 207.40
RCB’s giants Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and Fuff Duplessis have all been battered by Patidar’s lightning batting. Patidar holds the record for the first uncapped player to score a century in an IPL play-off. Patidar, who was part of the RCB itself for the 2021 season, was left out of the RCB ahead of the mega auction due to disappointment.
But Patidar, who is back in the role of substitute this time, is now the savior of the RCB and set another record by scoring a 49-ball century. Patidar joins Wriddhiman Saha as one of the fastest players to score a century in the IPL play-offs. Both batsmen hit 49 off 49 balls. Saha scored a century in the play-offs for Punjab. Patidar broke Virender Sehwag’s record of 50 balls.
With Patidar’s century, RCB went one step further in the team with the highest number of centuries. This is the 15th century of RCB stars. The players have scored 13 centuries for second-placed Punjab. Rajasthan Royals are third with 12 centuries, Delhi Capitals are fourth with 10 centuries and CSK is fifth with 9 centuries.
And this season has become the season where more centuries are born. Patidar scored his seventh century of the season. 7 centuries were born before this in 2016. With just two games left, another century goes down in history this season.
In the last five overs, the RCB players scored 87 runs in the last five overs. This is the highest score in the last five overs of an IPL play-off. Patidar and Dinesh Karthik (37 *) also set Mumbai’s record of 78 runs against Delhi Capitals in 2020. Karthik hit 5 fours and one six off 23 balls.
