Ireland Cricket Board approached Sanju Samson to play for their country

The 28-year-old Indian right-handed wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson has got offers from Ireland Cricket Board to represent their country after being ignored by Indian cricket management. Sanju Samson has exhibited outstanding performances whenever he plays for India. But he has never got enough chances to prove himself at international levels. An outstanding player like him had got only 27 matches at the international level.

Considering the natural talent that he possesses, he hasn’t gone up the way it should have. He is a stylish shot-maker who also keeps wickets. he is capable of playing jaw-deopping strokes around the ground, but with Rishabh Pant staying in the team, Samson needs to be on his toes.

He has been the captain of Kerala in domestic cricket and Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League. He has played an outstanding captaincy role in the 2022 IPL for Rajasthan Royals as the team has been the finalists.

He has been passed over by BCCI for the 2022 T20 World Cup and the 2022 Asia Cup. But previously, he has been chosen for the New Zealand series but got only participated in one game. Yet again, he was left out of the team for the current series against Bangladesh.

With the continuous rejection of Samson from the lineup, fans get agitated with BCCI and the selection committee. Fans criticized that BCCI always backed Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul, unlike Samson. Even though they have got enough chances without being performed well, Samson wants to wait on the bench or play for a B team. In that situation, Ireland Cricket Board welcomed Samson to the Ireland Cricket team.

“We will let him play all the matches if he is in our national team. He is a very impressive batter and he is one of the rare talent. We provide him an offer to play the matches from our national team. Our team required a skipper and batter like him. If the Indian team is overlooking him then he can join us, we respect him and make him play every match,” said Ireland’s cricket board.

But the player kindly rejected the offer, saying he is waiting for the selector’s call to play for his country. His dream is to play for his country and will never play for any other country.

“First of all, I want to thank Ireland’s cricket president for considering me for this role but I can’t accept his offer. I started my cricketing to play for Indian national cricket team. I don’t want to play for any other nation or can’t even think to play for another nation. I can’t accept this offer and I want to say sorry to Ireland’s cricket president.” Sanju Samson replied.

“Although, I haven’t got plenty of chances in the Indian cricket team but I will work hard and have self believe and sometimes the combination of team doesn’t allow your place in the playing XI but it doesn’t mean I am sad,” Sanju added.

Earlier, Samson was part of the 3-match ODI series against South Africa. In the 1st ODI, Samson came close to giving India the victory by an unbeaten 86 runs but narrowly lost the game by 9 runs. For the rest of the matches, he scored an unbeaten 30 and 2 runs respectively and India won the series 2-1.
