Jasprit Bumrah will be the Indian Captain for the last rescheduled Test against England in Edgbaston after Rohit Sharma is confirmed to not take part in the match. This is the first time Bumrah leading the national side in any format. Bumrah has been named India’s 36th Test Captain. He is also the first pacer to captain India after the legendary Kapil Dev in 1987. The confusion regarding the captaincy for the series-deciding Test match comes to an end after BCCI made the announcement. This made Bumrah become India’s 5th captain in the last six months. Rohit Sharma, K. L. Rahul, Hardik Pandya, and Rishabh Pant took turns for many matches this year.
While reacting to the news in the pre-match press conference, Bumrah said “It is a big achievement, big honor. It was my dream to play Test cricket. It is a big achievement that I have gotten the honour to lead the country. It is the biggest achievement of my career. I am very happy.” Bumrah has shown his interest to lead the team earlier and he is very much excited to play the role of a captain.

Bumrah is the second captain for the ongoing Test series and Virat Kohli captained team India for the first four matches last year. India is currently leading the series 2-1. Bumrah has played an influential role with the ball in the first session by picking up 18 wickets. He also hit an unbeaten 48 at Lords. Bumrah had an epic battle with James Anderson at Lord’s by bowling a total of 10 deliveries to Anderson, leaving the legend quite confused.
Being started his Test debut in 2018, Bumrah came a long way to become one of the major players in India. He has become the head of the pace attack now. He will remain at the top of the ranking of Test Bowlers. He has been the Vice-Captain of the Test and T20I series against Sri Lanka and also the vice-captain in the ODI leg of India’s tour of South Africa with K.L. Rahul as captain. As an experienced player, Bumrah will surely be the most appropriate captain to lead the team. The one who is largely criticized as not being a test material is now ready to lead the Indian Test team.
The absence of Rohit will surely make an impact on team India because he was excellent during the first part of the series by scoring 368 runs. He also scored a century during the last Test. Mayank Agarwal is selected as a cover for Rohit. India is still waiting to secure their first Test series victory with England since 2007. Team England has transitioned into a force to be reckoned with under the guidance of Brendon McCullum. England’s victory over New Zealand shows the attacking side of the team. Will India wins or draws the series is still in debate. The test will begin on July 1 at Edgbaston.
