Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin achieved the historic milestone in taking 50+ test wickets in a calendar year for the most number of times. On Sunday (06.12.2021), the off-spinner achieved the feat after getting the second wicket of the innings where he dismissed New Zealand’s Will Young on 20.
Previously, Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh were the bowlers who took 50+ wickets in a calendar year for the most number of times in different years.
Ashwin took 62 wickets in 2015, 72 wickets in 2016, and 56 wickets in 2017 consecutively. With 51+ wickets so far, he continues to make the year 2021 a memorable one for him.

Earlier we reported that he was on the verge to overtake the “Turbanator” – Harbhajan Singh’s record for the 3rd player in Indian cricket history to take most wickets in test cricket. Currently, Ashwin is India’s third-highest wicket-taker in Tests. This 35-year-old veteran with 426+ test wickets so far is only 9 balls far away to overtake India’s second-highest wicket-taker – Kapil dev.
