Both Sri Lanka and Afghanistan had a disappointing outing in the recent ICC T20 World Cup 2022, as both washed out in the Super 12 stage. The Sri Lanka tour of Afghanistan was initially scheduled to be played in February 2023. But it preponed on mutual agreement.

Earlier, both teams played each other in the Asia Cup. Afghanistan defeated Sri Lanka in the group stage of the Asia Cup but lost in the Super 4. Sri Lanka has won the title of Asia Cup 2022.

In the T20 World Cup, Sri Lanka played the qualifiers and won two games out of 5 in Super 12. But Afghanistan lost all games in Super 12. With the loss, Mohammad Nabi resigned from the captaincy. Hasmatullah Shahidi will lead the side now in the ODI series. Dasun Shanaka will lead Sri lanka.

While checking the previous matches, Sri Lanka prevailed over Australia 3-2 in the last ODI series. But now, they are playing without the key players Danushka Gunathilaka, Dushmantha Chameera, and Chamika Karunaratne.

Afghanistan emerged victorious 3-0 against Zimbabwe in their last ODI series. Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman trio will be their key players.
