Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan – Team Performance in the Past Matches

The second match of the 3match ODI series has been abandoned due to rain and with the win in the first match, Afghanistan leads the series 1-0. Sri Lanka was in a good position to get the win here in the second match to level the series, but it went in vain. The match was important because the result reflects on their qualification for the upcoming ICC Men’s World Cup in 2023. They want to win almost every game from now on to make it possible.

Earlier, Afghanistan choosing to bat first, got off to a decent start with Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Rahmat Shah. Gurbaz got 68 runs while Rahmat Shah and Mohamad Nabi scored 58 and 41 respectively. In 48.2 overs, Afghanistan scored a total of 228 runs.

The Lankan bowlers were brilliant in the middle overs, as they did not let the Afghans settle. Kasun Rajitha has picked 3 wickets for the side. It was a reachable target for Lankans, but the weather was not on their side, as they could only play 2.4 overs. The weather conditions got worse and the game was called off.

Now, the hosts want to give more attention to the 3rd ODI and try to replicate their performance to level the series.
