Asia Cup 2022, IND vs HKG: Suryakumar Yadav was exhilarating against Hong Kong in the Asia Cup Group match on Wednesday as he scored an unbeaten 68-runs off just 26 balls. Even King Kohli bowed down to him after seeing the brilliance of his knock of 6 fours and 6 sixes. Team India was 94/2 in the 13th over when Yadav came to the strike. Both Virat and Rahul going a run-a-ball way before that. But Yadav came out with a determination and he made a mockery of Hong Kong bowlers from the first ball itself.
The pitch was not at all a supporting one and it was difficult to hit through the line. It was at that time Yadav stoke his best.
Virat Kohli also played an unbeaten knock of 59 and his partnership with Yadav built an enormous 98 runs to post India 192/2 in 20 overs.
With his amazing knock, Yadav reminded everyone why he is India’s No: 4 batsman and also how he retains his 2nd position in ICC T20 Cricket Ranking. Former Indian captain Virat Kohli is always the first for appreciating a good performance and Wednesday was no different. After the Indian innings, Kohli was seen bowing down to Suryakumar Yadav as he was waiting for Yadav to show him the gesture before going back to the dressing room.
Suryakumar Yadav was very much pleased watching the gesture of Kohli as he never expected this at that time. He has called it heart-warming.
“Virat Kohli’s gesture (bowing down) at the mid-innings break was very heartwarming. I have never experienced it, I was just wondering why he is not walking back to the dressing room,” Suryakumar said about Kohli’s loving gesture to him.
“He was walking behind me, I told him to walk alongside me to the dugout,” he continued.
While asking about the partnership, he said “I really enjoyed batting alongside him and I even told him that. We were talking in the middle about what needs to be done in different situations. I have not played as many T20Is as him, so having the experience at that stage in the middle was crucial,”.
While the wicket was a little slow at the beginning, Yadav talked to Kohli and he had given the advice to “just express yourself and do as you bat”.
Further talking about his extraordinary performance, he said: “I was playing on the same track as others. My plan was clear, I just wanted to express myself. Sometimes, it comes off, and sometimes it doesn’t. Today was lucky for me. Batting first sets a different kind of challenge but we are trying to figure out how to go about setting targets while batting first. We have enough firepower to post good totals on the board.”
“The experience has been really good. Before this, I have played many T20s for my franchise and domestic cricket as well. Coming here, it was just how I adapt to the pressure, and responsibility. This is what I am trying to do whenever I am going to bat. That’s the thing I am focusing on right now, it is going well, for now, touchwood.”, Yadav added.
He has also said that India tried to beat Hong Kong by a bigger margin, but the opposition also played a good match. He is eager to have more game-time in the next matches also irrespective of the position he is asked to bat at.
