Sri Lanka Cricket Board is not in a position to host the upcoming Asia Cup T20

The Asia Cup T20, 2022, which was scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka has been shifted to UAE as the country is in economic and political crisis now. BCCI president Sourav Ganguly announced the change in venue on Thursday after Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) had informed the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) that the board is not in a position to host the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup T20 due to the economic and political crisis in the country.
Sri Lanka Cricket has already postponed the third edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) due to the ongoing crisis.
“Asia Cup will be in UAE, as it is the only place where there won’t be rains,” Ganguly told reporters after the Board’s Apex Council meeting. The BCCI Apex Council discussed various options for the venues and matches on Thursday with president Ganguly and announced that an entire domestic season would take place in 2022-23.

Asia Cup is scheduled to be held from August 27 to September 11 and will be played in T20 format. As per the reports, the qualifying round will begin on August 24, which might be the opening date of the event. Asia Cup had been delayed twice earlier, once in 2020 and then in 2021 due to Covid-19. India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and one qualifier will compete in the tournament.
India lifted the trophy of the last edition of the Asia Cup in 2018, with an exciting final against Bangladesh. With seven titles to its credit, team India has won the Asia Cup the maximum number of times.
The India – Pakistan encounter will majorly attract the Asia Cup. So, we can expect the best XI of India and Pakistan in the tournament. Also, India might be waiting to pay back the 10-wicket defeat in the ICC T20 World Cup last year with rival Pakistan. Media reports show that India and Pakistan are placed in a single group while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are in the other group.
Team India may feature top players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, K. L. Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Jasprit Bumrah in the tournament.
Asia Cup will be served as a warm-up for the upcoming World Cup this year in Australia.
