Virat Kohli – The  Sixth Indian to score 8000 runs in Test Cricket

Indian Cricket Star Virat Kohli’s 71-run international century has been postponed as he was dismissed for 45 in the first innings of the first Test against Sri Lanka.  Virat Kohli was dismissed by Lasith Embuldeniya in his rush to the half-century. Kohli was clean bowled by  Embuldeniya for 45 off 76 balls with five fours.  In the 100th Test, Kohli’s century came as a disappointment to the fans who were waiting for his century

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli scored 8000 runs in his Test career during the heyday of the 100th Test.  Kohli is only the second player to achieve this feat in the 100th Test.  Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting is in the first place.  In 2006, Ponting scored 8000 runs in the 100th Test against South Africa in Sydney.

Kohli is only the sixth player to score 8000 runs in Tests for India.  Leading the way are Sachin Tendulkar (15,921), Rahul Dravid (13,288), Sunil Gavaskar (10,122), VVS Laxman (8781), and Virender Sehwag (8586).  Kohli is also the 33rd player to score 8000 runs in international cricket and the fifth Indian to score 8000 runs in the fewest innings

The match came after a ceremony in honor of Virat Kohli, who is playing his 100th Test.  Rahul Dravid, head coach of the Indian cricket team, hands over the cap of the 100th Test to Kohli, who is playing his 100th Test.  Kohli, accompanied by his wife Anushka Sharma, arrived at the ground to receive the cap.  BCCI secretary Jay Shah and others arrived in Mohali on the first day of the Test, a milestone in Kohli’s career.
